Where the match cap actually bites
The formula is simple — bonus = min(deposit × match%, cap) and playable balance = deposit + bonus — but the cap is where most players lose track of their effective rate.
A matched deposit bonus advertises a percentage — 50%, 100%, even 200% on some Malaysian promotions — up to a maximum ringgit cap. Below the cap, you receive the full advertised percentage on every ringgit deposited. Above it, every additional ringgit you deposit still counts toward your playable balance but earns zero extra bonus, which quietly drags your effective match rate down the more you deposit past that point.
A worked example
Take a "100% match up to RM300" offer. Deposit RM200: your bonus is min(RM200 × 100%, RM300) = RM200, a full 100% match, giving a RM400 playable balance. Deposit RM400 instead: the raw match would be RM400, but the cap limits it to RM300, so your effective match rate on that RM400 deposit drops to RM300 ÷ RM400 = 75% — a full 25 percentage points below the headline rate, simply because you deposited past the cap. The calculator above flags this automatically: once your effective match falls meaningfully below the stated percentage, it tells you depositing less would have been more efficient per ringgit.
The practical takeaway: for any matched deposit offer, divide the cap by the match percentage to find the deposit amount that exactly reaches the ceiling — depositing beyond that figure adds playable balance but no further bonus value. Once you've sized your deposit correctly, remember the bonus itself usually carries its own wagering requirement before it's withdrawable — run those numbers through the Wagering Calculator or Rollover Calculator. If the offer includes a cashback component alongside the match, the Cashback Calculator covers that separately.
